What age did your silkie either crow or lay and egg? I have a 5 + month old that hasn't crowed or laid and egg yet, and I'm curious about others experiences with the breed. Thanks!

Oh my! That is a long time...lol!! Oh well, at least I have some laying hens already.

Anyone else want to share their silkie stories???

I've had silkie roos crow as early as 13 weeks...man, was that a shocker!!!! The hens? They are really late layers...I was so tickled when I got my first silkie egg...I wrote on it and posted it on FB!

I had one rooster that started crowing at 12 weeks, his brother started at 16 weeks. While my other set of roosters younger by two weeks began crowing at 20wks, his little brother has crow once or twice.
I have a silkie hen that is a year and still no signs of laying, while my other hens older by 6 months, started laying right at 24 weeks.

Wow, these guys are so cute, but they really keep us in suspense! lol

lol I would probably post my first silkie egg on facebook too!

Does anyone have pictures of silkie eggs they'd like to share? I figure I can live vicariously through you until mine either lays or crows( in which case I'll still live vicariously through others)..lol

Can any color/strain of silkie be feather sexed? I have 2 buff silkies and boy do they have diferent featherings!
one is feathering out like my other roos(that were sexed @ hatchery) and the other like the pullets! Both are different as in crested/bearded.
cute as heck though!
