At what age do you turn off heat lamp?

Thanks for that - i have been a little worried about it getting too hot, We are going to put a lower wattage globe in it during the day when we are at work and leave the 100w for night time when its freezing!...

Its a decent desk lamp, One of those brass desk lamps with a green reflector which my daughter smashed hence why its now the heating lamp.. Still not worth burning the house down for 3 chickens!

just watch them mine are about 2 weeks and love to explore away from the heat and when i think they are gettting warm i turn it off and come back 15- 30 minutes later to check if they are good i wait another 15 mins if they are hudled in the corner i turn it back on
remember when it its time to leave it off for the first day and night dont turn it back just because they are noisy. only turn it on if they look and act cold. they are most likly cheerping becasue of change in lighting, however that does not mean you should ignore they noise

also when they start going outside watch them!! hawks owls snakes cats dogs etc love little chick snacks!

I have black jersey giant chicks about 2 1/2 wks old when do u turn heat lamp off. and when do they go outside in coop live up north upstate ny cold here..when is it safe to put out side with no heat lamp..first time with chicks...

they might be ok with no light now. try turning it off for 10 minutes and see how they are. if they look cold and are huddling together maybe even where the light is pointed turn it back on. I think some chicks are different than others. and I live in western ny, I would not put them out until the weather gets way better, it needs to be no colder than like 50s at night and shouldn't be windy and stuff. this weather sucks. hopefully you will be able to bring them out. good luck!!!

even if they are feathered out cant stay outside under 50s..thanks for ur advice first time with chicks..do you keep the electrolyte going in water or only do once when you bring home?

My chicks are in their 10th week and still in brooder. I live in WV and it has been a cold winter. I raised them in a heated garage and followed the heat lamp instructions. I shut the heat lamp off a week ago and now I am going to shut heat off in garage this week. Temps are supposed to drop into the teens again on thursday morning. Should I heat the garage again and when can I move them to the coop. By the way Coop will not have heat,

wow ernie 10 wks still in brooder didn't think u had to that long..i guess mine will stay there to spring or warms up mine are only about three weeks so they got a way to go live upstate ny dennis

I have 6 chicks in a 4x4 brooder so they do have room. We have had an unusually cold winter temps 0 to 10 below. I couldnt see putting them in the elements that cold. However I am anxious to get them in the coop. Just wandering when is the right time. I am a newbee so I am sure people are thinking what stupid question he asks.

lol too funny no question asked is stupid only time it is ,is when u don't ask..iam a newbie also to all of this temp here also teens to -5 ..I have black jersey giants..
