at what age to chickens first molt?

mine are about 3 mos. old. they need to dump some of that down to handle Texas weather better. are they too young to molt?

They will go thru another molt at around 5 months to get their adult feathers. Their bodies will tell them when it is time. They will keep the new adult feathers until NEXT year fall and will molt once a year there after.

My chickens skipped their "first year" when we were expecting them to molt for the first time. They began when they were two years old, their second summer.
