Athena the Coyote Chaser

It's body shape sure seems more wolfish than the coyotes we have here....If it was really close in size to your doberman, I wouldn't rule out wolf or wolf-hybrid. The coloring is right for a coyote, though.

yotes are often called brush wolves we have red wolf in alligator refugee system in NC it seems they are making their way north to almost where I am on the Va/NC state line more then a few east coast yotes are 40-60 lbers I hope the pack is not large for your dogs sake

What a great dog she is, protecting her pack like that! It does look like a mighty big coyote, and I agree it could be a wolf hybrid that was a pet. Like everyone said, just be careful, but I'm sure you will. Rescue dogs can be the most amazing pets. I'm sure she'll get lots of extra treats and scratches today.

It's a coyote. We get really big ones around here too. Coyotes aren't stupid. It probably wasn't coming back for chickens. It was probably trying to lure the dog into a trap. Coyotes will hunt together and trick dogs that way. One lures it and the others jump it. It's a good thing your dog didn't continue to follow.

We have ones that big here too.My dobe goes out at night and howls with them either she's very good and they leave or very bad and they leave! Either way I'm grateful there is a fence between them!! They do use decoys and will draw off a dog and the pack will then kill the dog,my friend lost two GSD that way, take care! Aren't Dobes the best !!!

looks jsut like a hybrid my neighbors had. She was 3/4 silver wolf 1/4 husky and was a VERY Very big girl. I met her brother once and he made her look about the size of a dobe. Her name was Loopy, she was about 15 when they put her down. She was very, very smart too. I trust my dogs as much as anybody, but I wouldn't with a beast like that running around.
