It's a coyote. Honestly doesn't look like a wolf or wolf hybrid. I have a friend who breeds them - they are much bigger than this guy. Our neighbors had a 65-70 pound coyote that was shot by a hunter who had permission to be on the property. I hope you're able to get that bugger, they can be extremely bad news, especially if they would get into your barn

Howdy neighbor! I had no idea I needed to deal with coyotes too! What part of Cincy are you in? East, west, south etc.... I am spitting distance from the river on the KY side, west of 75 when looking at the map. Great dog! Someday I hope to have a well trained dog like that.

Hi Sune42! I am located on the west side in Miami Heights which is right around the area where I-74 & I-275 meet in Dent. Are you around the airport? I am in Kentucky pretty often. I am a real estate appraiser & I am licensed in Ohio & Kentucky. I was just at the Coldwell Banker West Shell office in Crescent Springs 3 weeks ago giving a seminar to the realtors there! We need to do lunch sometime!

I think that might be a wolf hybrid or a coyote cross, I has a rescued doberman she was the best dog she protected me with out training she was used in a puppy mill and when they were done with her they tossed her out of a car in the middle of now where she found her way to were my DH worked all the guys feed her for a week and when they decided to take her to the pound my DH brought her home I was scared of doberman's being attacked by one as a child but she became my dog and I loved her and still miss her she was put to sleep due to cancer I want another Doberman and I will find one one of these days but I do agree with the others it sounds like a bait situation where one wolf or such will get a dog to follow them then the pack kills them I would be very careful and if it was a wolf hybrid that was someone's pet it won't fear humans which is really bad. I hope someone kills it or catches it soon so you can actually relax this problem would be very scary to deal with good luck...

I thought that was you!

I guess what we have are really healthy coyotes in this area -- it looks like every coyote I've ever seen. In your neighborhood it could be a timber wolf... but it does look like a coyote to me. Glad to hear Athena saved the day.

I finally got my chicks -- and they are the cutest dearest things. I am entirely in chick love! I have their first day pictures on My Page. They are a whole week older now!. Gordon asked, "What's next? Goats?" Hmmmm, some of them are very little...

Hooray for Athena!

Hi Miss Jenny! I sent you a PM on backyardherds.com a couple of weeks ago, but I don't think u get a notificaton like on BYC. I saw your page with your home made brooder. Nice Work! So happy to hear you got your chicks. You know my pygmy goat doe kidded 3 weeks ago with twins! I should let you borrow them one day just to give Gordon a hard time.

I do think it is just a very healthy coyote. And don't worry I will protect Athena with the same dedication she does me!

Shellie you are right, Dobermans do have a bad reputation but I just think it's a matter of the right dog for the right person. Not everyone has what it takes to own a doberman. And I don't think people realize you don't have to get purebred dogs from a breeder. There are so many in pounds looking for homes. Athena was an owner rescue but my other doberman & my Akita are both from the pound. They did have issues when I got them but now are well adjusted trusted family members. Ask Miss Jenny she got to meet them all!

It's a yote and until it's dead and on a scale you won't know what it weighs. Coyotes are much "fluffier" than dogs and look much bigger than they are. I hunt them with guys that have been hunting them for decades here in MN. No one has ever actually killed one over 50. In fact over 40 is rare. Most around here are 30-40, but again they look bigger because they have so much fur. I do know that the coyotes are bigger in the north east US but not sure about your area.
