Attack of the beady eyed demon, update #3 of FrenchHen the wimp page 5

You are no more of a wimp than I am! I hate snakes! I don't care if you tell me 100 times that a particular snake is harmless. I am afraid of them. When I was a child I was swimming with my family in a lake and some kind of red snake fell down from a tree and started swimming around me in circles. I was so scared I could not move. I think this is what caused my phobia of snakes.

I would suspect so, but it probably really depends on how aggressive your ducks are.

I would recommend letting your kids try to catch them, they won't stick around for long!

Oh French Hen --- I am so sorry to hear that you had to go through this situation!! I have 1.5 acres in California and have lived here for more than 22 years. I have NEVER seen a snake. Now that my chickens are out in their coop and run, that may change. I will try to stay alert!

Best to you!

Cindy

My fear comes from a similar experience. My mean older brother shoved me into our playhouse in the back yard. It had a couple of copperheads in it, and I was screaming my head off trying to get out but he wouldn't let me out until my Big Daddy (grandfather) came out to see why I was screaming. He beat the nonsense out of my brother, then killed the snakes, then set the playhouse on fire. I have been terrified ever since.

My kids catch them? You should have seen the youngest freak out at Petco yesterday. I was killing time so Husband could work on a paper, so we went to say hi to the animals.

He was terrified of the baby boas!

So no, I don't think Sons will serve as pest control.

Wish all I had was garter snakes...in the past year we have seen rattlers, lots of copperheads, a water moccasin and a coral snake. Not to mention all the non venomous ones that seem to inhabit the place. We try to not panic and make sure what we are killing is not one we want to keep, but sometimes if it is dark, we kill and wait till we have good light to identify what it was we killed. Better Safe than Sorry!

Not sure if this works. My neighbor (whose husband has snakes) waters her garden and then waits about 10 minutes and then goes to harvest or whatever. she says the water disturbs any snakes, and she gives them time to move to a dry area (outside the garden) and then she can go in and not worry about snakes.

again, not sure if it works.
but i do know that garter snakes are very good, and help the garden.

good luck.

at least you didn't almost knock yourself unconscious crashing into your elliptical trainer after bouncing off the wall while trying to strip while having a Tizzy when you found a spider crawling down your, um, front.
