Attack of the empty bucket

Be very careful. Those buckets rarely travel alone. I'm pretty sure I have a herd of them hiding, in the shed.

How truly odd that you've posted this. Today when I went into the coop to check on my 6 week olds, I started counting....1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10....
um....do over..1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10....OMG WHERE'S 11?!!! Then I hear this knock knock knock. I'm looking around behind the bag of rice hulls, under the roost, up in the rafters...knock knock knock. My DH says lift that sand pan. I do and there's number 11. That little pink pan that says "bath" against the wall, it had flipped and number 11 was under it.

Just today! See how odd it is that you've posted this! I'm glad you found your hen. That could have been so bad. Another chalk one up for her roo!

Wow, I bet this is actually more common than any of us realize. We probably all have it happen and think HMMMM Freak occurance, and never mention it.

I bring the chickens in and out of their night shed to the day pens, in rubbermaid tubs. I used to take the lids off and leave them in the pen with them. But the bigger they got sometimes they would rock the tubs jumping into and out of them....Then one day at work I started thinking how horrible it would be if they got flipped over onto one of the chickens and cooked it underneath in the heat. So I stopped leaving the tubs in there (or put the lids on).

I never even considered the same thing about buckets.

WHATS NEXT?!

I think I saw the roost pole looking at me funny.....
 
That pic does look like she is leanin on her man. I feel bad he is going away in the next day or two. He is going to freak out! And her too, I guess....but this is my first time with chickens and he is way too aggressive already. He has nailed me a few times, jumps at me, threatens to bite (and bites), does his crazy rooster growl at me, etc. Today I stomped around after him and made threatening movemens and he pretty much stood his ground. Had I chased him he would have run, but he is not scared of me at all. He is manageable now (and useful to protect his girl) but I think in a month or two he will be scary mean.

Good lookin boy though.

Kinda reminds me of our roo. He is a pretty sweet guy, never attacked me but he hates buckets! We have some bight orange buckets from home depot, several big white buckets that had paint in them and one neon green bucket that is technically the horse's.

If you are walking across the yard minding your own business carrying a bucket, this sweet little RIR will come tearing out from across the yard purely to come kick the ever-loving snot out of the bucket.

As far as the chickens are concerned, buckets are the devil.
