He didn't do any damage because he's still little, but WOW! I was doing the morning chick chores (scooping litter, refilling feed and water) and this little guy came flying at my hands talons first and pecking away. He is clearly the dominant chick in that brooder anyway: he and he alone perches on top of the feeder and patrols it tirelessly. What can I do to chill this guy out? They're outgrowing this brooder already and I was thinking about splitting them up into two groups. Advice?
Catch him, pick him up and hold him until he no longer struggles. Do this every time you go in the coop until he realizes he's not the dominant bird ---- you are.
What breed is he? Yup, holding them until he settles down is a good way to do it. All my roos are very calm when I hold them.
He's a little Easter Egger. I've taken him out a couple times today and carried him around, and I'll keep doing that. Thanks!
