My hen was attacked by a dog and luckily, I was able to get her before he killed her. She is attentive and often shakes her tail feathers around chirping. I have her laid on her side because her legs feel very limp and she cannot stand or sit. There are a few tiny tiny bite marks around her bottom and her back. I really do not want to put her down but I need help! I'm not sure what I should do!

Hi, had a fox attack last week. I am NOO expert, I asked for advice myself.

I lost a bunch, this 1 was still alive, but completely laid out in dead chicken position, then she opened her eye. Took her about 24 hours to come around, so yours might be in better shape from the get go.

Make sure she drinks, eats, poops? I started antibiotics in the water because I was advised infection is the worst worry. Also, baby asprin and turmeric in food for inflammation, infection and pain.

She also has injures to wing and leg, but not broken that I can tell, it could be her back, I am in wait and see... but she is getting more strength and movement in feet and legs every day.

I made a sling in a tote with cloth, leg holes and cut out for poo. Maybe yours would appreciate that also?

She liked it for a couple days, but is getting more movement in her legs, knocking her food and water around and likes to rest in a nesting type position also.

I was also advised that chickens are resiliant to injury and healing will be quick like a couple weeks.

Good Luck!

ETA - oh, and disinfect wounds and use triple antibiotic, but NOT one that has has pain killers in it.

And I saw a post in another thread about a rooster that recovered from a broken back, I can't find it now of course...

Thank you so much for your help I really appreciate it! I will definitely start on some antibiotics and attempt making a sling for her. Thanks again!

Much better, her legs are getting stronger and I think she really likes the sling I made for her! Thanks for the advice! She still isn't walking but she's getting there.

My girl is outside today!!!! So it is really fast! I think the antibiotics immediately was a good thing.

One days she started scooting, that evening squatting.

Next day toddling around, next evening hopping out of the box.

I put her in the pen by herself at first, then with her 2 9 wk buddies. She is doing great!

So seems like your girl is on the same path!!!!

Yay!!!!!
