Attacked by Coons, I don't know what to do now

I may be completely crazy, but here it is. The foot is dead. Black and shriveled up. The chicken, however, is eating and drinking and even moving around some with her good leg and wing. I had meant to cull her on Saturday, but a few things intervened and I haven't been able to yet. Here is my question. I'm really not gonna lose much, I'm planning on killing her anyway, but do you suppose she might make it if I amputated her leg? Is is even worth it for a Cornish X? I really have nothing to lose trying. My family think I'm crazy. Advice? Opinions?

Very interesting. I'm not sure what to think/say. I have never amputated a chicken leg before to save a chickens life. I am inclined to say give it a try. Your perspective of not having anything to loose is reasonable in my book. The chicken it sounds like has fought the infection. The damage to the lower leg sounds like it has already been cut off from the vascular system. You may even be able to do a bloodless surgery.

Wish the best for ya and the chicken for that matter. I would like to know what happens. You can't always get experiences like this every day.

Phil
