I have several lots in the barn with excess to the covered lot a little while ago after I had fed and was collecting eggs a rooster in a closed area was trying to mate a hen , She was Not happy any way one of the Roosters in the lot came in as I was bent over and attacked Me from behind . This has never happened before , Thing is I'm not scared of Chickens and this is the 2 time I've had a Lot . But I have rods in my back and a couple of the clips are lose, How can I prevent this from happening again ?. This boy weights a good 10 lbs

Last Nov I took in a stray rooster. I named him Hansel and was smitten from the start. Thinking at that time he was approx. a year old since his spurs were small. Over the last 6mos they had doubled in size. I bragged on him for his sweetness and gentleness with the girls and claimed him as my favorite. My girls loved him too. Well several weeks back I was giving the girls a treat and made the mistake of putting my arm up abruptly blocking one hen who had already had more than her share to allow the lowest pecking order hen to get some...Hansel did not like it one bit and quickly attacked me from behind with his spurs. I felt it was my bad and let it go. A couple days later I separated him for about 5 mins placing him in coop just while I quickly cleaned Harriet's messy bottom. She squealed just as I picked her up but was fine after. When he heard her he went crazy crying out pacing and panting the whole time during his short lock up thinking I was hurting her. When I let him out he attacked me from behind. After that I had to be very guarded because he starting running up on my back heals, flocking me or hitting me with his spurs about every other day. I tried not to show fear but not sure I played it well. I immediately started reading up on tactics to use on aggressive roosters without success. It was completely stressing me out so I talked with a neighbor highly experienced with a large flock and they agreed to take him in. Although I was very sad to part with him I felt I was making the right discussion for all since I have a small flock of only 4 hens and the 2 older hens would not allow Hansel to mate with them leaving the younger 2 to take a beating on the corners of their wings. Hoping the attack you encountered ends up as a one time incident. In edit I just read recent feed on Rooster Training Advice that is featured and wish I had that info when I first got Hansel. It's full of information if you haven't read it yet as are a few other articles found on here about rooster behavior and tips on what to do.
