Attacking Rooster

Quote:
Ouch!! I bet that hurt (him and you). Last night I sat down outside with a muffin and when my roo came up to me, I grabed him and just held him for about 10 minutes. He didn't know what to think, after a few minutes he just sat there and wouldn't even look my way. I have him a piece of my muffin and let him down when I decided to. I am going to do the same thing again tonight and everynight until he learns to behave.

There are too many good roos out there to put up with one that attacks you. Some people think they can "cure" them of it and I'm sure a few you can, but don't feel badly if you end up having to cull him. At my farm they don't get a second chance....just not something I'm willing to put up with or have continued in my flocks.

I've kicked the big roosters that have bucked up to me.
No, not like a John Kasay 52-yard field goal.
And no, he wasn't hurt. They have so many layers of feathers once mature that it is the equivalent to quite a bit of padding. Seriously. But after the Speckled Sussex tried what seemed to be a novice attempt at spurring Julie and then jumped at me once (these are the only incidents from this bird), I have no problem reminding him who is boss. He hasn't tried it since.

The don't really have a butt to whip, so...that's difficult.
