ATTN Vets-possible mast cell tumor?

Well my Chaser made it through her surgery with flying colors!

The DR. took a wide excision to ensure it won't come back. It didn't spread anywhere. Also he let me do a dental cleaning on her and remove 3 epuli (lumps on her gums). I got a great deal, only $250 for it all! (I used to work for him).

Wow that's quite an incision there. How's Chaser doing?

Well for Snickers I'm gonna probably go and get her a cone of shame tomorrow. She's gotten the bandage off three times. The tape I had sucked. So we got some better tape. Tonight we'll reinforce the bandage with the better tape and hopefully she won't get it off tonight. I'm thinking of cone-ing her at night when I can't keep an eye on her. The vet wants the stitches in a full 2 weeks so have many more nights of this. Our vet doesn't sell bandaging supplies. And I got jipped on the pain meds. Last time we got a bottle that had enough for 10 days twice a day. But this bottle there is only 4 left and her surgery was just Tuesday. She's obviously in more pain now than she was before. Other than bandage issues she is doing pretty good.

Chaser is doing great!

My vet gave me everything I needed for her. Also I bought 10 rolls of vet wrap cheap on eBay. Google vet wrap on eBay and you will find some good deals. It was like $2 a roll. Also some feed stores have it for $1.89 a roll. Other bandaging materials can be found at the Walmart pharmacy. Tell your vet she needs more pain meds. Good luck.

This morning Snickers wanted to join her pack. She went to the patio door and looked out and barked. Second bark since the surgery. Her bandage stayed on last night so I think we found a winner as far as tape goes. We got athletic tape. Since I didn't have to fiddle with her paw this morning she hasn't limped so I'm waiting till she does to give her a pain pill. Looks like I'll be able to get a little more done around the house today.

We got the results back from the tissue samples and there is no cancer

They had a ten mile long name for what it was which boiled down to... It did start with a foreign object in her foot and the tumor was inflamed fibrous tissue her body made as a defense. It shouldn't come back.

I'm so glad!

By the way SarahBeth, my avatar is a picture of my English Setter Lexi who has mast cell carcinoma. She is an AWESOME animal.

Snickers got her stitches out today. She still needs to stay bandaged for another 5 days but the vet said she is healing up really well.
