ATTN: Yokohama Lovers!

I wouldn't mind every other day. What do you feed them? What kind of fatty foods would you reccomend if I need an egg boost? I was expecting only 1-2 eggs a week. Oh and what age did yours start laying?

I feed scratch, with a little corn & small amount of lay pellets, but they free-range all day, so they get lots of bugs, grass, & horse poop.

Sorry, they started laying a little later than normal, about 7 months.

I figured they were late bloomers like most ornamentals. I might have to feed them a high fat/protein diet anyway since mine will be penned. Let some of my seramas free range today with my supervision. Turned my back for a second and turned around to see a falcon perched on a pole eyeballin my babies.

You have to attract crows, to chase off the hawks, then hang a fake dead crow on the roost to keep crows from stealing eggs...... vicious cycle!!

(Sorry hang on coop, not roost )

no crows in the area, unfortunatly. One hell of an annoying mockingbird, tons of mourning doves, some turkey vultures, and apparently a falcon.

You ever show any of your birds? How did you get your start?

I read an article about a new breed of chicken that came into the U.S. I've ALWAYS loved the long-tails( so much, I had a tatt done many years ago.

I did some research on them, saw a picture, & HAD TO HAVE!! Ordered 1st pair of juveniles from N.Y. Very suspicious transaction, made me think they were illegal, but since I'm no angel, I bought anyway. Raised them, & added new blood, & hatched. No I just watch the birds, not show them.
