I need help. I have/had a white yoko chick out with my phoenix that I hatched from Decoyman's eggs. Such beautiful birds... ANYWAY they are 10 weeks old now...
3 days ago, the yoko started to be puffed up, and would literally run to me everytime I went out to the yard. Let me pick her up. She was clearly distressed, and I looked at her bum, nothing, watched her eat, drink, poop, all looked good. BUT she started puffing up and calling in distress, then to not moving to much where I had to put her up in her coop. I brought her in to the house, set her on a white towel, her own food and water and waited to see a clear poop sample, looking for blood...
Nothing.
Yesterday early afternoon, she died.
There was no paralysis, eye dialation, nothing that would look like mareks, though I know that it can manifest in different ways. I am thinking cocci, but again, no blood and poops looked normal.
The other 7 birds, 6 phoenix, one Jap bant seem to be fine. I do have one phoenix that I am concerned about, she seems to be a bit less active.
They are on flock raiser. They live in their own coop, but are free ranging most the day, they pretty much stay around their own coop though. My other birds, a dp flock don't pester them other than to get into their coop and lay an egg here and there. The neighobors leghorns are also regular visitors, and can be pests, but they've not pecked the chicks relentlessly, just usually take over their feed dish. There are multiple feed dishes for all the birds too.
None of my other birds or dp chicks are showing any of these problems. SO, do I need to do something different? Different feed? Supplement? Treat for cocci? The yoko was gone with in 3 days of showing distress. Oh.. and their pen is crushed concrete...
Please help, I am asking here because this is my first time with these birds, and they are so lovely...
