August Hatch-A-Long!

I am still waiting. I can see movement when I candle but not even internal pip. They were due Friday morning. Arghhhhhhh!!! I can't take it. I'm going to bed.

Ok so I checked one last time. 5 are definately moving, not sure about the other 2. I will just keep waiting... And waiting.... And waiting.... Come on little chicks.

Its still in there at 26 hours. I am trying to be very careful and patient. I have been able to confirm that it isn't in proper position - but its head over right wing not under left wing. The membrane was so dry, and adding water was flooding the poor little guy so I decided to try coconut oil instead and it worked great - clear membrane plus naturally antibacterial. I have just been watching to make sure the blood vessels recede before I did too much to help. He just started chirping loudly a minute ago which is the first time he has done that. So I went back to the assisted hatch article again and saw that was a good sign of starting to be ready to get out. I brought him back out of the bator under a strong light and thought that it looked good for attempting to peel away a little of the inner membrane. I carefully lifted it with a damp qtip by gently rolling the qtip under and all I could see left were very fine spider web lines. So I carefully eased it back over the head and sides of shell a little and it was fine. But then I saw tiny prick of blood at the shells edge so I dabbed it with paper towel, wrapped it back up and it is sleeping in there right now again. When he pipped it turned out he did indeed pip below the air cell and pipped through both membranes. I found that there seemed to be blood inside crusted to his feathers. But i was able to unstick him from it by gently rolled the damp qtip under the membrane.

Here's the little bugger. You can see the wing under the head and the breast bone off to the left side. He is even a little sideways in the shell - the chest is at the top of the shell. All the others are pipping away still except my RIW mixes which are either slower or not coming out (?)

I hope your little one there makes ok. I had to assist one of my two remaining in lockdown. There were both breech position. One (the green egg) died at some point after Thursday. The other one is alive in the incubator for the night. I am exhausted so I'm going to sleep now. I will share the details in the morning. Hope my little breech baby is still alive in the morning.

2 hatched yuupppiieeee 5 more 2 go one started zipping last night but has made no progress since he pip in the middle of the egg not in the air cell hoefully he can do it by himself 1 polish 1 pekin hatch im waiting in 3 black orps 1 pekin and 1 silkie

Slow Poke is out his shell! He was completely pasted the membrane but all the yolk and blood was absorbed. His navel was protruding a little so I dabbed corn starch on it help dry it. He is very tired, hope he makes it. I made a concoction of warmed egg yolk and sav-a-chick probiotic and electrolytes powder and scraped a tiny bit into his beak. I will give him a little more later.

I still have 3 pipped eggs and 4 with no action. I suspect the 4 are not viable anymore, but we'll see. So I guess that means we have 13 hatched of 20 so far!

10 1/2 hatched so far - Slow Poke is still in his shell - I've worked a little more on him but he is still comfy so I will leave him be. Sadly the one that just hatched is severely cross beaked

. It pipped the wrong end, but seemed to be doing fine, lots of noise, and was zipping, so I figured I'd be ok to go to bed, got up this morning and it had only zipped about 2/3, but no noise, no movement, took it out of the bator to check and it was dead. Really malpositioned, both feet behind head, wings kinda to the front, like the legs pushed them forward. Wish I had stayed up now, poor little guy. The yolk wasn't absorbed all the way either, but the blood vessels had receded fully. Still 2 eggs to go, it's officially day 21 here! 3 little babies have already been moved to the brooder!
