August Hatch-A-Long!

400
these guys hatched on the 3rd :D ...batam Columbian wyandotte

No pips, but the chicks are still moving. A few more hours and they will be at day 25.

In the morning I'll have 11 SIlkie, Serama, Sebright, D'ccle, Cochin and EE bantam mixes due to hatch. They are looking ready except one odd one. It's alive but only filling half of the egg. And I have my Lavender Orpingtons going into lock down. I will get it right.

I have another idea of what might have gone wrong. I hope you can follow.

The 3 thermometers all had bad batteries, so read the same but low so I had the incubator temp high. But the higher temp was better for the eggs, so when I changed the batteries showing the true temp I lowered the incubator temp causing the eggs to be too cold.

I hatch a few chick in my worst incubator 3 weeks ago. How often should I change the batteries in the thermometers? I ordered the bateries with the best review from consumers report. I haven't s[ent that much on batteries in a long time.

Maybe the temp went up because of the chicks' activity in the eggs. Did you see any internal pips when you candled?
Good Luck.

I didn't see any internal pips however I did see what appeared to be one of the chicks beaks now pointing up but not into the aircell. Just in case I went ahead and put them into lockdown a few hours early. The humidity has been running anywhere from 26-45 during incubation so I bumped it up to 75. By morning it should drop down to upper 60's and stay there if the pattern holds true. Really hope I can get these little guys to hatch.
Please, please, please help me!

I went to check on them one last time, the ones almost on day 25. I had movement on 3 of the 5. The other too looked bad so I put a tiny hole in the first one and carefully opend it up. He wasn't alive. :( The other egg looked the same so I carefully put a hole in it and looked in. No movement. So I opened it up a little more and was trying to figure out what went wrong and yes you know where I'm going with this, the chick moved. It looks grown, but there are still a few blood vessels but I'm not sure if they are the ok small kind or the large bleeder kinds. I could see the chicks leg, side view. The shell is really thick. It was very hard to make a hole in it. The membrane is also very thick. The chick barely moves. I don't know if the yoke is absorbed yet. I didn't peel off anymore shell once I saw it was alive. I misted the membrane with water and put it back in the incubator.

What should I do? Leave it? Open the membrane in a safe area? or try to remove the chick? How can I tell if the yolk is absorbed? If I remove the shell but leave the membrane intact, will that harm the chick? I will be tryingto look this up as I wait for your help.

I know some of you are as crazy as me and are still up reading these posts, please help. My little chicky needs you.
Oh my. I have no idea what should be done. Though if it's day 25 I would think the yolk had been absorbed by now...Maybe just make a small slit in the membrane to give the little guy a starting point? I honestly don't know...I wish you luck

I'm on day -3
