Ok so my impatience got the better of me and I decided to do a test candling on 5 random eggs from my batch. It's only day 3 but I saw veining in 3 of the 5!

I'm so excited! The next 18 days needs to hurry up. lol Can't wait to have fluffy butts again!

Candled eggs on day eight, three of the original four are really dark, my candler won't shine through the yolk, but if I look for long enough I can see dark moving blobs. One is clear I'm pretty sure. The new Isa brown eggs were set on 21st of July, so are on day two. One had a tiny crack that spread about halfway down the egg. I can only see it while candling, and is impossible to see otherwise. Last night (when I first noticed it) I covered the crack with candle wax.
So 50% of visible development so far!

Went to bed, no change to any settings to the bator or A/C, woke up this morning and it was 96.9 in the bator What the heck?? So - did they just get killed? It may have been like that for up to 4.5 hours while I slept. I turned it up a tiny bit - just can't stomach the idea of doing nothing and leaving it at 96.9. Its been an hour and its till only reading 97.2 so I just turned it up a little more. Going to put in another themometer just in case the thermometer is really the problem.

I went to bed, got up at 1am, mine was at 45%, 99*... Then went back to sleep. Jumped out of bed at 4:45am -had a bad feeling- checked... 34% 102*!!!!!!!
I put my thermostat back in its original spot, it's in a funky angle lol, it doesn't look attractive, but it works. Hope you find out what the problem is & can fix it. Don't give up just yet

Alright, its finally back up but its reading 100.57 so I dialed it back a half a hair.... I really need to mod this tiny knob.

Oh no! I went to bed last night and the bator temp read 100. Just got up (my first day off in quite awhile) and the temp read 93! Please tell me their not dead.

The lid wasn't on like it should've been and I don't know if I bumped it last night and didn't notice it or if hubby did it this morning on his way to work. Can they survive temps that low for a few hours? I've fixed the lid and covered with a blanket to try to get the temp back up....

OMG!! I am so glad I put in another thermometer. The "good" one was still reading 97 again so I checked the other one and it was reading 102!!! I have NO IDEA how long the other one has been reading wrong It was spot on but maybe the batteries are running down???? I hope it didn't kill any/too many. I checked the one we candled on day 7 that had a heartbeat already and the heartbeat is still there so I am hopeful.

everyone is having bad luck. with that said... I just put 2 more eggs in the bator. I just couldn't help myself.

keep going candle tomorrow then again in a few days to check for growth... that's what I would do

In spite of my temperamental thermostat, my chicks to be seem fine. I candled them last night and all six embryos are growing and moving around inside. I am so excited that they are all doing well.
