August Hatch-A-Long!

By day 12 I
was able to see veining but when I candled again at day 17 the veins were totally gone & it looked like a blob in there. No movement at all.

It was a pullet's egg but I think it might have been a double yolker couldn't tell. It was larger than my 2 y/O hens eggs

There are also the 3 lighter colored eggs that I think are bad.

Here is one of the ? ones that I think has a bloodring.

Here is one I suspect to not be developing

And for reference, here is one that I think is developing properly (these are all Day 10 eggs)

Day 10 candled and can see movement and strong heartbeats in 3/3 fertile eggs! Two brown eggs on day 4 and have larger, darker yolks than before.

Cant tell if that is a blood ring, but its not a day 10 development either, the clear is infertile. Regardless, eggs need to be candled through the air cell. You should limit the time the egg is on its side as air cell damage can occur. Best way is to hold egg upright and shine light through air cell at the top of the egg. If your light is strong enough, sometimes you can shine and see through the sides, keeping the egg upright. But everything you need to see you can see by shining through the air cell.

Interesting... I actually was holding them with the air cell up with my flashlight behind them and taking pics with right hand. Some of them loaded different directions because of how I held my camera. However I have no luck holding my flashlight at the top of the egg and being able to cup the light. Can you take a pic of how you do this?

This is how I do it. Obviously I would be holding the egg with the other hand & not the camera, then my thumb would be able to cup around the flashlight better. Sounds like you're doing it the same as myself :)
Sometimes I use a toilet paper roll. I always shine through the air cell, I can see it better that way, & I don't think my light is strong enough anyway.

This is only my second time hatching, with the first time, on day 10 I saw lots of movement & veins, even at day 17. IMO if they don't look like the others they're probably bad, unless you're staggering, then that's a different story. I could be wrong though.

I am staggering but those were all from the same day - day 10. The first two that are super dark shelled eggs are on day 7. I am thinking I should wait till day 14 before tossing any eggs.... being my first time I'd hate to make a mistake and toss a good one :/

sorry can i but in this convo. can anyone help me an let me no if this egg looks healthy. im worried that the circle around the heart is a blood ring.

its my first time doing this. sorry for butting in x
