August Hatch-A-Long!

Candled on day 4 and I think my entire clutch is a dud. My sis in law is going to be so disappointed. She totally wanted more houdans. :( And I was looking forward to hatching again
Good Grief.....what can a person tell on day4.....................please do not judge them to quickly.
I have seen so many decide the eggs were a wash....open the egg and discover a growing chick inside.
Maybe you have a better light than I do.
I hope the eggs are good.....................

....Good Luck

Just joining today, I have 14 Black Copper Marans, 15 Red EE mixes, and 12 Copper EE mixes in the bator. I also have a couple broody hens who I gave 8 eggs each this morning but I'll have to see if they'll continue sitting. They were pretty mad at me when I moved them out of the main nest boxes and put them in a separate section of the coop.

OK, so I broke out the super bright flashlight and just candled the 14 shipped Welsummer eggs (Day 8) and 5 were duds - 3 scrambled and 2 not fertile. But the others all look to be developing well so far. I candled all 24 of my barnyard mix (day 11) and 2 had blood rings (confirmed by eggtopsy) and 2 were non-fertile. When I say non-fertile I think that is the right term as there was no development at all. I numbered everyone and put theme back in leaving the corners empty as I've heard that is where there tends to be the most fluctuation in temps.

Welcome and good luck................
I moved a broody yesterday ...she did not like it and stayed off the eggs for most of the day.
I was not worried about the eggs because it is so hot................Went to check last night
thinking I was going to have to put them in the incubator and......................there she was.. doing her job
and has stayed all day today.......................guess she just wanted it to be her decision....................

oh ya!! I almost forgot my 2 broodys out in the coop...but their clutches are from anybody who laid in that nest...they decided to sit so we let them!! there is a New Hampshire red, this is her first time and My Buff Orpington, name is Momma, this is her second time....anyway momma got up for a little bit today and I happened to be out there....the New Hampshire, named by my granddaughter "pecky" started moving mommas eggs up over the nest divider and sticking them up under herself!! is that too cute!!
