August Hatch-A-Long!

Mine are pipping right along. I still am worried about the very first one. his membrane isn't white like the others - I am thinking its the inner membrane or something? Its been 14 hours and I don't want him to get shrink wrapped like I have heard about. Are we still thinking this looks good?

Is it still moving and chirping in there?

Seeking opinions...there are three eggs still in lockdown. One has pipped and is working hard in there. The other two I have not seen rocking since the day they went into lockdown. When #3 hatches and I take it out to go in the brooder, should I candle or float test my remaining two or just wait? Tonight at 10pm will be Day 22 (I don't count the day they go in as day one).

Don't float until day 25. There's risk of bacteria growing when you put them back in the bator. If they're still alive that can kill them, and also infect chicks if they are still in the bator.

Really? I've never heard that before. I've seen many people use the float test just before lockdown for dark eggs that make it difficult to candle.

Hello august :) I set 18 eggs yesterday (2 chicken eggs and 16 quail eggs). I know the quail will hatch first and lockdowns will over lap and it might get dramatic in the end but I did some reading and found that people have success this way so here we go! I do have a question for everyone here as you seem to have all had good luck this month, if my hen lays another egg tomorrow can I add it to this hatch? She's a 3 year old hen so her laying is getting unpredictable and i'd like some babies from her. If tomorrow is too late I'll be happy with the 2 eggs I have from her though.

Well hatching can take 4-5 days once it starts. The uping of the humidity would be the real issue. Your choice.
