August Hatch-A-Long!

My chicken scoots in when my dog lifts the door sometimes. Once my dog changed her mind and my chicken got caught half in half out. I had to let her loose. It was so funny. She wasn't hurt at all but she knew she wasn't supposed to be sneaking in so she didn't want to make any noise. She was trying to figure it out herself. Her butt wiggling in the air. Oh I wish I had my phone with me then to get that picture.

Now THAT would be a funny video!

okay peeps story time...I purchased peafowl hatching eggs from several different individuals on e bay...2 different people sent me totally infertile eggs...not jumbled not mishandled not quitters...just infertile...well I read on their ratings others saying the same thing....I contacted the seller and his response to me was " No where does it claim the eggs are fertile" and I responded, " Doesn't "Hatching egg" imply fertility??"

I understand all about the risk of shipped eggs but not one of the 3 are fertile and I paid 35.00...I demand a refund...utilizing e bays resolution options.

a reputable breeder would offer more eggs or something...his response is ridiculous

There is a lot in handling that can and will effect the fertility. X-ray for one! Not all eggs that show clear were never fertile.

What do you do when the eggs themselves cause the temp to go to 106? If I adjust it down within an ahour it goes to 95. Even on the store bought incubator that stayed constant. As soon as I took the eggs out it stablized right away. I put other eggs in, still no problems. That high of a temp worried me. Do I just leave it alone next time?

I actually purchased my Banty EE eggs from Ebay. They were very nicely packed and they sent extras. Only 1 was cracked and most started developing. I blame temp flucuations, homemade bator and my inexperience as to why so far only 9 eggs still developing of 23. The seller had great feedback as well including some follow-ups with comments on the great hatch rates.

Buying shipped eggs is a crap shoot but I like to increase my odds by buying from the closest 'reputable' breeder, whether that is on eBay or not. I just meant if I couldn't personally verify their reputation I wouldn't buy from ebay because eBay is so full of scam sellers.

I had 15 of 21 hatch. 6 left are doing nothing. Here is the first 13, the last 2 had to assist and they are still fluffing! 3 partridge, 2 porcelain, 1 paint, 1 blue/splash and 8 white! All have 5 toes! LOL

Do you ever bid on eggs you really want but hey are expensive (especially one that you have to keep raising your bid on) then when you win, you are so excited and sick realizing you have to pay for them? I hate that part. When I lose, I am relieved, but sad I won't be hatching the eggs.
