August Hatch-A-Long!

My one with the pip sat there all day until 3 and then unzipped the whole egg super fast!  Pop out she came.  Great that the boys got to see the whole thing.  Alternating between peeping loudly and resting right now.  Little blue silkie.  Hope she gets the others moving.

Can you post a picture? I am incubating silkies too. They are totally new to me, I have never even seen one in person, lol. I wanted to raise them because my grandkids want to hold my chickens and they are not interested in being held...besides they weight a lot now, lol. I also like that silkies are broody...might save me the stress of incubating
. :)

When I went out to the Hensly Palace this morning, all the other hens were in the house, in front of the two broodies intently staring at them. I can only assume they hear some peeping or activity that I cant hear (day 19). I have a piece of fencing closing off the nest boxes so the babies cant fall out and the others cant get to them. The nursery house and enclosure are all set up. Now just wating for action!

Same thing here this morning but no broody on eggs...I suspect my pullets were studying the one laying hen to learn what they will be doing soon. I hope that's what they were doing because I have found 4 soft shell eggs on the coop floor recently...new layers dropping softies on the floor, not in the nest box. Strange that I find two on the same mornings about five days apart. My layer is laying an egg a day in the nest box so I know it isn't her. Chicken Puberty...gotta love it.

My little (I mean that literally, it's the size of a silkie egg) went into lockdown early this morning. I candled it befor going in, no internal pip yet but lots o movement.

This egg came from my own birds, an eight month old Red Sexlink hen and my ,then 13 week old Barred Rock cockerel). No shipping, no refrigeration, no sitting for days, it came straight from the nest box moments after being laid and went into the incubator that was already running. I knew her eggs were fertile because I checked a few from that week and the yokes all had bullseye's. I wanted to see if the egg would hatch coming from a young cockerel.

Wonder what their baby will look like? Anyone ever mix a Barred Rock and Red Sexlink before?
