August Hatch-A-Long!

Congrats on all the new babies!!!! My August hatch is now complete. After a final candling of the last 3 eggs with no movement, I chose to open them. 1 had pierced the air cell, his beak was barely sticking out and he had absorbed all the yolk, he drown. I felt so horrible because he was moving yesterday and I decided to wait. My other 2 were also moving yesterday but never got there head from under there wing, they only had a little bit of yolk left to absorb.

In the end I have 2 very healthy chick's and 1 that I am concerned about. He only wants to sleep and is not active or eating on it's own. I started feeding it last night and am feeding it now....I sure hope he pulls through. Now it's time to move on to the September-hatch-along, hope to see you there!
what do they drown in?

I always hate it when they get to the hatch and don't make it....I've had babies pip the shell and still die before they hatch....
do you have any electrolytes? Gatorade or something that you can give the little one? maybe sugar water? in a dropper.....how old is it?
Yes, I've giving him sips of electrolytes. I'm feeding him a mix of chick starter and hard boiled egg yolk...I use the electrolytes to thin it out and make it easier to eat....kinda like a soup. I hope he pull's through. If there's anything else I can or should be doing, please let me know.

Well while I was out my first Blue Breda pipped - and like nearly every other hatch the first to pip died. He pipped out the side instead of the air cell. I knew he was dead and took him out. I did an eggtopsy and found he was malpositioned with his foot over his head. Poor little chickie :hit Has anyone else noticed the trend that the first to pip has issues?

My last one usually does. Weak and takes forever to hatch and doesn't last long.

Quote: familypendragon I think it's a lot to do with us hatching shipped eggs....my home grown babies don't give me any grief! have any others pip yet? I got use to some of the shipped eggs hatching early, these I'm waiting on aren't even due until tomorrow but I'm looking at the incubator like they should be there already!! oh well just hatch strong and healthy when ever your ready lol!
