HI! How's your backyard flock? I hope they enhance your life and ... spark joy!!!
I'm new to hosting chickens as ofJuly 2020. I've wanted to try raising chicks for years and one day just decided to drive over to Tractor Supply and bring some home.
We currently have 18 gals. Thirteen joined us in July 2020. Five came home March 2021.
We have 5 Buff Orpington, 4 Sapphire Gem /Blue Plymouth Rock, 3 Black Sex-Linked, 1 that was supposed to be a buff but turned out to be a Buckeye, and 5 Easter Eggers
They're so funny and sweet. They are little dinosaurs that don't hesitate to nip at knees and toes and buttons. I'm working on training them to actually stay in our yard.
Other hobbies? Canning, sewing, cooking, camping, canoeing, swimming, snorkeling, building, appliance repair, organizing, reading, collecting books, compassionate landlording, birding, hiking, organic gardening, saving the earth one action at a time, democratic peaceful action, committing random acts of kindness, loving the beejeezus out of my kids and grandbaby and sweet hubby.
I don't have dogs or cats. Dogs scare me and cats smell terrible. I have a very sensitive, keen, canine-like sense of smell.
I've been scouring these BYC boards to learn all I can and finally feel that I might have helpful things to contribute.
