We got an Austra White in our maiden batch of chicks (e.g. first time chicken parents) last spring from Meyer. She is a character (her name is Punky Rooster because I was convinced she was a roo even though she didn’t look like one) and not necessarily as interesting to look at as the fluffy-faced EE or the big floof Brahma or the other patterned girls, but she is by far the best layer. Size, consistency (once a day without fail), ratio of egg to yolk, shell density…all perfect. Highly recommend. 10/10
 
Good solid layers that aren't as flighty as straight Leghorns. They were Grandma's favorites.

I like the California White's also.
