AustraJerseyNorcaLeghornLangshanSumatra Cross hen? *-*

She's not BSL... not pure. They have red earlobes and usually more gold than that. While their combs are large, they aren't floppy.

If she was crossed with your typical EE, she wouldn't have the huge floppy straight comb and her legs would be green/yellow, not black/yellow.

There are lots of differerent breeds that can be used to make sexlinks, I have some chicks in the brooder that are mottlled ancona/barred cochin. They don't al look the same.

thank u guys for your thoughts. i think ill just go for barnyard mix since this hen is a mystery. haha, thanks again

Correction! A black sex-link is a cross between any red rooster(gold) like an easter egger perhaps... and a barred hen... production black(practically barred leghorn.) my vote IS on a black sex-link.

As far as I know, the only cross that will create a BSL that is commonly sold on the market is RIR/NH/PR roo and a barred hen, almost always a rock.

I'm not arguing that you can't create an autosexing bird from other breeds... of course you can. But if I ordered BSL's and they were crosses of Easter Eggers and leghorns I'd definitely feel cheated.

While that may have been the purposeful or accidentally reached outcome, I feel there's a world of difference between a BSL and a bird that has been bred for autosexing by crossing a red to a barred.

Goes back to my point, color alone does not determine breed.

She's just a plain old mix. She definitely is bearded and muffed, so it is possible that she is an easter egger. They don't all lay blue/green eggs, have green legs, and pea combs. But really, without knowing what her parents were, there's no way to tell for sure.

oh, she's not laying for now, she's rearing her chicks.
this is not my pic. but it looks like the one that she lays.
this is the color of the shell most of the time. but sometimes has a small hint of light green.
