Hello everyone! We just got our first hatch from our Australian spotted duck blue heads pair. They just hatched 2 days ago! One more should be hatching tonight as well. Keeping our fingers crossed. I was wondering if there was anyone knowledgeable enough to tell me what variation of ducklings we have now since I know blue head spotted aussies can breed all three variations of the silver ,blue and green heads. Is there any way to tell at this esrky stage of life. I’m really hoping for the male to be a green head. From what I’ve researched it sounds like the greenhead males show a lot more contrast as ducklings than the blue head and silver heads do. Correct me if I’m wrong. I have no clue how to tell what the females are though. Here are some pictures of the little buggers. thanks for any help !

I have no idea about this breed but all I know is the name of the breed is a misconception, they weren’t even developed in Australia but they were bred with native Australian ducks apparently.

Anyways someone should be able to help you out. Also great photos of the ducklings.

I’m not sure if they’re considered an ornamental duck or not. They are used a lot for exhibition though so probably an ornamental. I’ll post it in they section as well.

Also could someone help me sex the yellow colored ones. They’re either going to be male silver heads or else females but not sure WiFi variation of female.

I think your going to get more response on the ornamental forum Not many know much about Australian Spotted ducks. Do the females quack loud like a domestic duck and the drakes mumble and sound raspy like domestic drake?

Okay had to go look them up you piqued my curiosity

So when old enough you should be able to tell drake from female same as other domestics female quacks loud drakes sound raspy like the are chain smokers.

Ok ya my main question is if my lighter colored gold looking ones are females or if they’re silverheads. The darker one is for sure a greenhead. They’re tooo young to go off their quacks. They’re just a few days old now. I’m pretty excited if I got both green heads AND silver heads. That’d be amazing.
