Australians - Where are you all????

Pics
Thats so nice of you to think of us all up here.... Dont you love laptops??? About ten days ago my daughter had a day off school and used about 25% of our monthly internet usage in one day - so heading into the end of the month- I had none left. Last weekend I raced out to buy a small one and get some wireless broadband connected.. It sure got me out of trouble for a few days - But then this week my home PC died as well!!! I couldnt believe it- and was so glad I had bought the lap top. All back up and running now after I drained the bank account to buy a new PC today. I have lost all my emails- and had some people wanting ducks that I have now got no way of contacting.. so I have to hope they get back to me.

The water tank is full, and the ground very mushy... But we didnt float away here. The ducks have all spent extra time locked in the shed- I heard the Wangaratta and Gipsland are badly effected- but havent caught a news broadcast today yet.

Well, as it has not stopped raining for the past week we are home! Not much fun driving around in pouring rain is it? Anyway, hope all is going well with the chicks and the duckies! Some of Mine have ended up with and upper respiratory disease, so decided to treat the lot with Baytril - VERY,VERY expensive for 50 chickens!!!! But as I said to Hubby(who doesn't know exactly how much I spent!)it would cost a lot more to replace all the chickens. With all this cold wet weather I'm not surprised that this has happenned. Harry thinks it is wonderful and all I see of him is a little bum wiggling in the air as he dives for mud grubs!

Harry would love it Im sure!! All mine have been digging in the mud everywhere. Hope you had a great holiday and those chickens all appreciate the lengths you have gone to for them.
Years ago I bought a sick duck from a market and took him to a vet straight away...after 5 months on antibiotics and three operations he was cured....I can remember trying to give him a pill twice a day....dosing 50 chickens wiouldnt be fun...Did you get some kind of liquid form?? Not even sure if that is available- but it would be much easier than pills Im sure.

For the Anti -biotics it is in liquid form. 10ml per litre,so I make up a bucket full - 9 litres and that does all the chickens. Have to do it for 5 days. Also two of the hens got into a fight while we were away, and one has an infected eye, must have been scratched,so she has to have ointment put on twice a day.Another Silkie has broken her toe, it goes on......I worked less when I was working! Have you re found many buyers since your computer crashed? I saw your ad on BYP. Hope they all come back. Talk soon off to beddie byes!

Hey there! Are you going to Melbourne for the show? Just thought I'd ask! Keeping in touch.

I have 24 eggs due tomorrow, black silkies and mixed silkies, have had a LOUSY hatch rate lately so keeping my fingers crossed. Bought a new incubator, all fully automatic and digital, but it won't get here till the end of the month - boo! How're your hatchings going?

I am spending a whole week in at the show. Helping out with the PSBEV stand. I have also ordered a new incubator. I am picking up an IM 35 on Saturday. I have some eggs ready to go into the hatcher later tonight when I get things organised.

I am going to visit another friend who breeds runners this weekend- She wants me to go and give her some help with colour coding now I know a little more about genetics..

So glad you had the liquid form...I couldnt imagine you trying to poke pills down the throats of all that poultry for days on end.

lol...thanks wooklet...in my case- if I am at home - then yes...I pretty much know a duck is watching me since they are EVERYWHERE...But no fear about that in my case.

Welcome Ma Noob Glad to see some more new Aussies on here. Hope you get as much out of this site as I have- Its a great source of information and opinion and great to know someone is always online in an emergency.

OH...and of course I have to include in my post the main reason I came to this thread today.....

I brought these guys home from the Melbourne show today..so cute..I dont have the room for them and cant keep them too long...But I had to have them come live with me for a while at least. Goslings are just so cute. There is one chinese in there- and thats the one I like the best. She is a little unwell from being at the show- but I hope a little TLC will soon turn things around for her.

Your goslings are just gorgeous! Wondered what you would bring home from the show - well done-how many do you have? I learnt a poem once about geese, never forgotten it:-
I'm a wise bird,a sky bird,a wild bird and shy,
I'm a park bird,an ark bird with no need to fly.
I'm a big bird,a banded bird,eating grass and corn,
I love to honk hello to each Colorado morn.
I'll never be a migrant bird, flying the trackless sky,
I'm a sleek bird,a fat bird, who hates to say goodbye.
I'm a tame bird,a local bird,swimming lakes and ponds
I love the Front Range view-why venture far beyond?
I'm a resident goose and step with waddling gait.
I'm a stay-here goose and have a stay here mate.
No going south for me;no unseen path to follow,
Only gravel paths - I'm no Capistrano swallow.

Applies to all tame geese - hope you like it! Are you going to keep them?? Adding an edit here,my parents had a pair of Chinese Geese many years ago, they were beautiful and quite tame although the male could be a little feisty.
BTW I have told you the adventures of hubby elsewhere - here is one more! He was transferring(his)eggs from one incubator to the other for lockdown,in an esky,so he slips drops the esky and cracks 4 eggs. We put them in the 'bator, needless to say they didn't hatch,in fact one blew open! I felt so sorry for him,but this time I had to laugh, he is such a klutz! Now he goes to pick up an egg and I say'"don't you dare!" Wonder if I would have been so tolerant had they been my eggs????
