I am still recovering. Being away from home all week at work and even longer hours for the two days of the expo has taken its toll. So glad we have the auction this weekend and I will be reducing my numbers. Tonight I spent some time tagging all the young female ducks I could hear. I will be selling them as pairs- or three to a pen- so want to make sure I at least get one tagged female in every pen. They are just a little too young to be absolutely sure about a few of them- I have more females than males- but I want to keep about ten of the females for myself- and only three of the drakes at this stage- and so far I still have all pairs that I can tell
Its been a bumper year for females for me...sure hope next time round I dont end up with all males.
This is Max at the show with a cute little tie I found. Its made for a dog- but i think Max looks very cute wearing it.
Duckyfromoz, you have some cute ducks. Max is lovely too.
I wish I could get to the auction but I'm going to the heavy horse show. I was hoping to see some Silver & Speckled Sussex and Dorkings there. Really need a nice Dorking roo.
Now I need to go back and read through to see what everyone keeps.
Ducky, you have some very well dressed ducks! What with their boots, and capes and now the tie! Just gorgeous. Wish I'd had an excess of hens this year, other way around with me - too many roosters, and there's a few still here. Sigh! I think they've become permanent residents!
Enjoy the auction, hope you sell lots and lots of yours and everyone elses poultry.
I don't suppose you want to hear the story of how hubby locked up the neighbours chooks in our pen do you?! Then wondered why we had 10 instead of 4 in the morning? No,I didn't think you would!!!!
Ducky your Max is a beauty. My runner pair have finally started to lay. Quite surprised I found the eggs so easily as they free range on 5 acres and sleep with our dog on the concrete outside the house at night. They chose a nice boysenberry vine to lay under. So I have been brave and decided to add 5 to the incubator yesterday to see if I can get them to hatch. Luckily I kept your pm with the info on what to do as I would never have remembered other wise. Now fingers crossed I can get a couple to hatch.
Wooklet Your stories just keep getting better and better.. or should that be funnier and funnier...or woeful..or tragic..lol..just about anything can cover what that Hubby of yours gets up to.
RareBreedFancier - We have another in October- but of course there is the two shows as well - so plenty of opportunities to come over and experience some Footscray club hospitality.. Details are here
Satay..you have tipped me over the egde...I have npw started planning on th day I will turn the incubator back on. I have two girls laying again now.... and it will be 5 weeks before I would have any hatching.. With all that I have for sale this weekend....5 weeks is plenty of time to rest up before the eggs could hatch..lol..Im hopeless..
