Australians - Where are you all????

Pics
Wow! You were right, 24 hours later and the egg is still unzipping, feel so sorry for it and would love to help but know I mustn't! I can see the chick, and its' beak is poking out, and the egg is cracking all round, but we're still not out. Two of the other eggs have little holes in them, but 3 are doing nothing. So we shall keep hanging in there, and hope at least 3 make it!

Love the fact that you sleep with your incubator and various poultry!! Hubby snores so badly that I can't sleep with him, so we have seperate rooms, that means I can pretty well do as I want too!

Keep you posted! At least my cocci chicks have recovered.

Im sure you will be up during the night to check on those eggs... It wont be too long if it is already unzipping- I have seen a duck unzip and hatch in 20 minutes once.
My little duckling had an accident today. It was in the incubator and got its beak caught in the wire bottom. It has little bits of the beak gone- not deep- but I was in a panic to find my baby with blood all over its face. It is very weak tonight- and maybe in some pain - at least the little beak looks painful. Also I have had it on a face washer to help keep it warm and it got a tiny fibre in one eye and now has the second eyelid closed...My poor baby.... So that two lessons I have learnt today ...Always cover the wire base and dont leave litle ones on fluffy face washers...

I feel horrible for what has happened to this first tiny little baby.

Aw -so sorry about your chick, do hope it is o.k., they are amazingly resilient and I will keep my fingers crossed for it and you.

You're right it's nearly midnight here and I am up, and we have 2 little chicks, and a now gaping hole in the third egg. I have actually put a cardboard box in the incubator and put them in there, but one keeps trying to jump out!The other one looks exhausted and is just lying there, so I have put the light out and am going to bed! G'nite. Let me know how your ducky goes, please?

Fantastic news on the chickens...Im sure by now there are more out- and you will have had such a day with them all... Look foward to seeing pics.

I uploaded pictures of my 2 surviving chicks to BYP, but I can't seem to get them onto this message! Help!

Hi there Fowl_Language... Love the name by the way...

I am from down in Melbourne..and as the name suggests raise ducks. I have since I was 12 years old and they have become a huge part of my life. Dont know much about chickens...but I am learning..And now I know what a Barter Black is. I actually tried hatching some chickens not long ago- and eneded up with one RIR and 2 Australorp.

Click on uploads...Then down on the right hand side you will see "my uploads" Click on there... That will open the page where your pics are. Each pic has two lines Thumb - and Image.. If you copy the whole line of information in the "image" box you can just paste it into a post.

I hope you can understand that...i am hopeless with instructions

o.k. here goes, let's see how your instructions are!

If that has come through, we have 2 very intelligent chickens here, 2 days old and doing the crossword already! It really does look as if they are discussing it doesn't it?
Yeah! It worked, thank you. These are my 2 surviving chicks from the 6 that went into the incubator. They should be Barnevelders, but the dark one looks like a Frizzle to me - what do you think? Maybe I should post a better one of it?

Anyway, thanks for the instructions, I understood you better than the BYC instructions!!

I dont think the other eggs are still alive... But i didnt expect much to hatch from the first eggs I set. They were all a bit small. My girls are laying much bigger eggs now- so I guess thigns will improve as time goes on.

Also I was suprised today to see my name in orange... Someone has given me golden feather membership!! I couldnt believe it...Most likely someone from America I would say.. I have no idea who - BUt it certainly was a lovely surprise.

Glad you understood my instructions... I dont think I have a very good way with explaining things sometimes..
