I had a look in the index page- and cant find one.... You could either start one off - or you are more than welcome to just hang out here with your neighbours P-Funk. I know I have seen a few on here...but maybe they just dont frequent this part of the forum.

Ducky, how'd you go at the show? I threw my back out on Friday and couldn't face lugging chickens around! But would love to know how you went?

lol..I forgot to post here about the results... What I learnt is it pays to read the schedule and know how to enter your birds... My club show offers a prize for the three different weight classes- but it was different at this show. There wasnt even a best of for Runners - which their should have been for the number of birds entered- so as I only had four birds entered- I got 2 firsts- a second and a third.. No competition in my classes-

Two Pekins got Champion and Reserve Waterfowl- the only trophy prizes offered on the day. ( no loss though as the trophies offered at that club are pretty ordinary- they are " gifts " more than trophies - nick knacks some bigger prizes at least got money or a bag of feed. ) My daughter did get Champion Waterfowl in the Junior section though- and got a nice sash and a little wodden box with a picture of a chook on it.

We have another one coming up this weekend too... The Victorian Waterfowl Association - This will be a great chance for me to get some real feedback on my birds and how I am going with them .

Gee are the malays that heavy????

Hope you are felling better soon wooklet..

I guess I havn't looked into it much (showing) but I know my daughter would love to show her silkies over here. We went to our lee County fair a few months ago (before her eggs hatched) and every other bird we looked at had comments on the tag from the judge like "not a good example of the breed" "not enough tail feathering" etc

I expect it was mostly 4H entries..but you would think they would be able to get quality birds, right? You seem to have a lot of shows over there! I'm jealous!

I would love to see them doing something similar over here! It's good for us "Learners" to get feedback from the judges on our birds! Plus there is nothing more frustrating than watching a judge walk straight past your birds without a second glance, if they had to stop and make a comment , at least they would be having a look. Having said that I am finding showing as addictive as keeping chickens! More,more,more....

I can see a good point to the judge leaving a card. I know I dont always get a chance to speak with the judges after their job is finished- so its a good way to make sure the kids are getting feed back- even if it is negative. I am disappointed that more judges dont actually award a bird first place just because it is the only one in its class. I have stewarded at a few shows though- and will say that all birds were taken from the cages and inspected - I cant see how any judge wouldnt at least give a bird a cursory look over even if it was the only bird in the class.

Sorry, should have probably said "cursory" glance, it happened to me at my first show, the bird in question was NOT show quality,I know that now, but it was really disappointing when the judge virtually walked straight past it! A card would be great, but maybe then the judging would take too long?

Did the judge take it from the cage wooklet?? Regardless of if it was show quality or not - they still should have in my opinion. Of course- if there are many birds in the show and the judge is under the hammer for time as well- I can understand why it doesnt happen in a rare occurance. But it shouldnt be the norm. I am actually not comfortable with the thought of some people handling my birds- some judges can be a bit rough - so I just do all I can to ensure they are calm and used to the cage and being handled so they dont stress when it happens.
