Australians - Where are you all????

Ducky,I have been offered the girl in this picture to be with Harry, what do you think of her? The guy reckons she is show quality - don't they all? But I thought that I would ask you what you think of her, I know it is not the best picture, sorry!

She certainly looks pretty nice in this photo.. Standing up she would be a perfect runner shape. Harry would love her even if she wasnt perfect though.... Cute photo... " the grass is greener on the other side of the fence????

What a weekend!!! I am glad to go back tomorrow for a rest.. I won Champion waterfowl with a runner on Saturday- and just got home from a poultry auction at Kyneton. Sad to see some of my birds go- Max my lovely goose was fiercely competed for- 3 very determined bidders that all had to have her since she was just such a sweet natured girl. Elvis my drake with the weird crest was sold after bidding closed- but still despite his very individual look still found a new home. I was more than happy with the prices, and with 14 less mouths to feed, I now have room to hatch some more.

Congratulations,Ducky! Great win for your boy and yourself, and I am sure well deserved. I actually saw the picture of him on FB, but think that you should post it here so that everyone can see how beautiful he is, what a shape!

Sad to see favourites go, but at least you know that they are going to good homes. We also had a sad day, I had 10 cockerels here too many,so they had to be despatched, not by me because I cannot do it but where they went was not a forever home. I HATE doing that, but what can one do?No one wants Roosters. I swear if I came into money I would buy about 500 acres and turn it into a rooster sanctuary, there was someone doing it here, but I think they were over run!

Wooklet.. What a sad day. Just one reason I dont often hatch chickens... Drakes I can rehome as a " quiet pet" due to their raspy voice. I do like something different occasionally... But knowing where the boys may end up puts me off raising the females as well.

You twisted my arm... Its not a great photo...as the photography pen is built for chooks not Runners and he couldnt stand all the way up..

With the advise of a breeder I greatly respect- he is to go in a pen with my favourite girl as soon as she starts laying. He is still young- but is pretty much fully grown- come on spring.... I want to see your babies!!!!

He really is beautiful - I'm happy you posted him so that we can all admire him. I know what you mean about the pens, Malays have to stoop as they are so tall they can't stand up straight in the pens!

Someone is going to make a fortune when they learn how to pre sex chickens!!

Watch this space for future Harrys! I haven't got his new wife yet, the owner is bringing her to our Annual show for me next week, if Harry but knew! (He still tries it on with the Barnevelder girls, but they have become very good at dodging him!)

Harry will be so happy Im sure. He must have been sad when his last " wife" wasnt around any more. I saw some very interesting birds at the auction yesterday- naked necks for one... They really are strange looking. I loved a little sebright I saw- but it was part of a pair..and no roosters for me. There was also a variety of pigeons there too- very strange looking some of them...not like they grey annoying ones that come into the yard to clean up what the ducks leave from a feed.

He's a nice looking drake Ducky. Glad he found a new home. It is sad when you have to sell your favourites. Wooklet we have to do up our spare roo's too and it's never fun. In saying that hubby does the deed and i pluck etc. If i had to do the deed they would be here for ever. I like your idea of a rooster sanctuary now i would love to do that too if i had more land.
