What I've noticed in other peoples Australorp roos is the comb development happening much much sooner. Eventually she did sprout a nice red comb and wattles and then was laying eggs soon after.

Australorps are usually very gentle and sweet (can you see my bias). I find that by 5 weeks the cockerels have quite significant comb development compared to the pullets and I have been 100% accurate in gender identifying from that point. You will probably know in a couple weeks and since you don`t have another BA to compare with it might be worth reposting then.

I've yet to have Australorps. Hoping to next year as part of a black and white theme

A tidbit for sexing chicks I picked up during this first year of far too much research was to wave a hat or some such thing over them. The ones that stood up were male; pullets will instinctively squat down. Not sure how well that works but thought it pretty cool.
