Australorp, Isa Brown and Silkies - boys or girls?

Thank you everyone for your input. We agree that all the signs point towards Maya being a cockerel and it probably won't be long until she develops a proper crow.

We don't mind the noise but our council is very strict and if we get even just one noise complaint, it is likely the local council will just rock up and seize him

Hopefully we can organise for him to live on my boyfriend's uncle hobby farm. It's a very large property so he can have a very good life there and we can visit him every now and then

I have called up my local council to find out exactly how long we have until we need to rehome Mr Maya.

To my surprise the rooster ban in my area was actually removed in 2015. Homes in my suburb are allowed 1-2 roosters

Have a plan B in mind if you decide to keep him. He will mature far larger than your silky hens and potentially could injure them while trying to breed. Your silkies by the way are beautiful birds.

Thank you yes he will still eventually go to the farm in Red Hill if it doesn't work out

You have a lovely little flock. Yes, Maya is a cockerel. Honey is a pullet, and so are the silkies. Hopefully it'll work out and you can keep Maya, I had an australorp cockerel once. He was a good boy, gentle with the hens, always calling them too feed. It's unusual not to have a complete rooster ban in a residential area, but it is a nice surprise!
