Australorp?

Mine is such a sweetie! She's also quiet, a great layer and really smart.
I would love to have another one.

I have one Australorp and she is the flock leader since we found our roo a new, country home. She began laying in December and gave us an egg a day pretty much all through the winter. Now all the girls are laying(3 Buff Orps and a Cochin as well)
They are all quiet and are great, friendly girls

I have 20 of them! They are all calm and inqusitive birds and Very good layers. I only have a few that let me hold them, but none of them are really afraid of me. I wouldn't put them with more hyper birds though or they may get picked on. I have mine with Buff orphingtons, who are also Very sweet, calm birds.

I love my two australorps, Juliet & Lynn. Juliet's the head chicken, despite the fact that we have a roo. Pretty quiet and very gentle, except when there's bacon, then Lynn body slams the others to steal their share. We've had them since mid-Nov and have picked them up, hugged them, pet them, etc. from day one. We average almost an egg a day from each and they're huge! They are the same size or larger than jumbo eggs at the store.

I just one my australorp. She is one of my older hens but has always been calm, sweet, curious, friendly and one of my favorites. That beetle green black sheen is gorgeous. My Mary Grace is the head hen around here as I don't have a rooster and was the first to accept and lead the new babies.

You can't find a gentler breed....oh, and she is still laying at 5+ years.
