We just started this past spring with chickens. We purchased 4 pullets at Orschelns in town to start with. I kept them in the bathtub when we first got them and enjoyed watching them grow. One was a black Australorp. My son named her Peep. She was the sweet of the four. Didn't mind being held and was our first to lay. Sadly, we didn't know better and let them free range when we weren't home and she was eaten by a coyote
. Since that time we learned to be more careful and our girls (and now a boy, we recently added 3 more hens and a roo) only get to free range when we are around to keep an eye on them.
When spring rolls around we are going to get 2 or 3 more Black Australorps....can't wait!
