Australorps vs. Barred Plymouth Rocks

I have both breeds and while the australorpes are bit more flighty than the barred rock both are very hardy breeds and I still collect up to 7 to 9 eggs daily from just nine chickens. I have 3 of each and also 3 orpingtons. My orpingtons are the best layers and have collected double yokers many times from them! All three of these breeds are duel purpose. When they have reached the end of their eggs laying years I will replace with the same!

It's not likely hatchery stock of either breed will brood. And cockerels from hatchery stock are a coin toss as to temper.

If you are wanting a bird that broods and have your intent on a cock bird I suggest you obtain stock from a breeder. The temperment of hatchery and breeder stock is night and day. And I've never had an aggressive breeder cockerel. Well, I did have one but it was not from a real breeder rather a propagator of chickens. Their in lies the difference. True breeder stock is what I suggest of either of those breeds.
