alright everyone! tell me your thoughts on the Australorp breed.

I have 2 whiting true blues, 2 golden laced Wyandotte’s, and 2 buff rocks. They are all between 20 and 22 weeks old.

i sadly lost 2 Wyandotte’s so I’m thinking about adding two black australorps to my flock. They are about 3 months old. From what I’ve read the breed is friendly so I’m hoping they’d integrate well. What do the experts think?

As any chicken keepers know, it's based on the individual bird how well integration will happen. Studying the personality of your own flock will give you a better understanding on how to proceed.

I mean I’m certainly no expert but I’ve definitely heard certain breeds more aggressive or assertive than others. I’ve also never integrated birds into my flock because these are the first ones I’ve ever had and I got them all as chicks.

yes i agree! i love Australorps they are very sweet and gentle but it depends on your flock you have at the moment my isa brown dont really like new additions and will peck occasionally so its on your buff rock she might like them its good to add a new chicken with a buddy she knows and loves

I was going to get two black ones and start by introducing them in a crate and then letting them all out in my yard before putting them in the coop together without the crate. Have you found it to be true that they lay between 16 and 18 weeks?
