The barred rock is a cockrel. ☺ sweet boy too. He crows and has very definitively pointed saddle feathers and sickle feathers. Thank you for helping

Just an update on this, he's male. Good news is so far no fights between him and the barred rock cockrel he was a chick with. And pics for confirmation. Other good thing is he's still docile and lets us handle him if needed

I wouldn't get in the habit of feeding him by hand, or the other one either. They need to have a healthy respect for humans, dogs... whatever you have wandering around. If they don't have that respect they tend towards aggression. There are exemptions, but as a generalization this is the case.
