Lol, no, hens lay without a roo... I explain it to people that don't understand how that's possible this way: I don't need my husband around to ovulate or to go through my normal menstrual cycle, but I do need him to make a baby... Hens do not need cocks to produce an egg, but they do need him to fertilize the egg to make a chick.

My son was born March 30th (week old on April 7th) and he just turned 7 months old, so they aren't nine months old, that's for sure. I have a couple birds that were supposed to be six months old back at the beginning of Sept. when I got them and haven't laid yet. It is so hard to wait.
 
I fixed what I said. Cause my chicks are exactly 3 weeks younger than my son. My son was born on march 9th
