Do any of you have one of those battery operated (or solar) automatic chicken door openers still working great after 12 months?

Any issues along the way?

Anything you would have done differently as far as installation or type of opener?

Hope we get some reponses to this. I just ordered an electric one and it should be here tomorrow. I hope it lasts.

I have the gravity one (no gears to hold the door closed). I have it plugged in and not on solar. I love the door, it has been a year and still great. The only thing I would have done different and I am actually changing this spring is that I should have installed the door a little higher up. I use the deep litter method and the litter falls out of the door when it opens and I have to clean out the entrance so that the door will close all the way and not sit on litter.

This was one of my concerns (door not closing all the way).
I'm sure there's an installation workaround.
Like you said, making it higher.

Thanx for the info!

i have 2 wooden doors on cable drawn up by motor and plugged in. both broke 3 months in the "cable" basically fishing line broke and is impossible to restring. Hate them because of this fact.

My autodoor, operated by 4 AA batteries and triggered by a light sensor, is still working perfectly after 11 months and a bit - haven't even changed the batteries yet! I like it so well I had a second one installed in the new coop currently under construction (almost done). This is the VSBi - Electronic Doorkeeper - model from Foy's.

I have the one like Foy's sells, with the light sensor on a cable. I have it mounted on the inside. I ordered it in the spring of 2007. Still works. I wish we could have gotten one 20 years earlier.

Thanx for the input!

I was looking into getting one of these doors and because of the expense, I wanted to be sure they'd still be working after a year of daily use.

Also, I'm not extremely skilled at putting these types of things together, so I'm really looking for something that is easy to install.

I checked out the one on the Foy's website but couldn't figure out how it is put together. I wish they had a video!
