Auto Feeder HELP

Hi there, recently I bought a auto feeder but my chickens don't know how to use it.
I tried to place my chickens on the plate to get them used to it, but when it shuts it makes a loud BANG
How can I get them to use it?

Place some food so that they have to step on the plate. When they step on it, they will realize that it opens and there is a gold mine in there.

I do this but then they run away and a loud BANG follows

Them being skittish doesn't help either

That's a nice type of treadle feeder, sides are blocked so they can't get head in unless standing on plate.

There's also a 3 step 'training' for treadle feeders.

My chicken often eat out of it when my foot is on the plate but will not go on it themselves due to the metal sound
