It seems that when we got home from a long day of skiing the 'Pullet shut automatic chicken door' had a coat of ice on it so it couldn't close! We broke off the ice and pushed it shut but the ice dripping off the barn keeps freezing it open. Any suggestions? I really don't want to pry it open every morning, plus it probably isn't good for the door either.

Some kind of gutter or awning to deflect the drips away from the door?

You need to make the over hand big enough so the edges where the water drips off miss the door.
