I installed a garage door opener on my chicken coop so I can open and close my coop door (chicken door) from inside the house. Also the light on the garage door opener provides all the light I need inside the coop and the button on the wall also has the "light" button so I can turn the light on and off when i'm working inside the coop. Anybody else have one of these? I can post pictures if anybody is interested. New egg here still working on my coop.

YES!!!! Please post those pics! I saved my old garage door opener is hopes of figuring out how to do it. For the life of me though, I can't figure it out and I even built my own house so it's not like I am construction impaired.

I will get a few pictures posted hopefully this evening when I get home and give more details how I did it. Going to be nice to be able to let them out while i'm drinking coffee from inside the house in the morning. And no trip thru the dark to shut the door at night. Hit the button on the remote control and the girls are safe and warm inside with the door locked down. Surprised a lot more people have not done this.

Here are the pictures. I have not cut out the door opening yet because the run outside is not complete. But the door and door opener works even better than I expected.

I got this one free. Had a gear stripped in it and I repaired it. But my thinking is if you have to mess with the coop door everyday opening and closing it with ropes and pulleys, tracking thru snow and rain at night, ect then its money well spent.

When I get this coop in operation I plan to add a "Door Monitor" to the coop door. This device is wireless and can be purchased for less than $40. It will tell me from inside the house if the door is open or closed. Green light means door is closed. Red flashing light means door is open. Device simply plugs into a recepticle inside the house and has the two lights on it. Probably have it in the bedroom so if i forget i won't miss the flashing red light when I go to bed. If you had a remote on the nightstand you wouldn't even have to get out of bed to open and close the door. The rooster will tell you in the morning when its time to push the button
