I have an automatic turner and I got to thinking. It tilts them from side to side but what about manually turning the egg in the holder for the egg so that it will be turned from all sides. Not just the two. I hope this makes sense. I figure it isn't necessary since it is still being moved in there but I was just curious on your thoughts.

Most people get the auto-turners because time or memory doesn't allow for regularly turning the eggs. The turners do the job of keeping the embryo from attaching to the side of the egg. Certainly you could twist the egg around in the turner, but it defeats the purpose of having the turner if you're manually turning the egg too. It wouldn't hurt anying though if you want to do it.

ANother benefit of the turner is that you reduce damaging the eggs by picking them up and possibly dropping one, and you reduce contamination due to touching with your hands. I always wash my hands very well (soap and water and a clean towel) before touching my eggs. I hand turn but would love a turner. GL
