Hey, I have hatched thousands of chicken, turkey, quail, pea, pheasant, ect.... eggs. A friend of mine has emus that started laying for the first time. He asked me if I would incubate them for him. I know nothing about them other than the little I have read on here and the internet. I think the humidity need to be in in the 30% range and temp at 97.5. My real question is, can I use the auto turners in my Dickey's or GQF bators? I know I can't put them in a regular egg tray. I am not home to turn them by hand 3-5 times a day. I travel for my job and am gone 2-3 days at a time.

Thanks!

just because they have to be turned 3X a day doesn't mean they have to be turned every 8 hours. We work fulltime too and turn our eggs when we get up (6:00 am), when we get back from work (4:45 pm) and before we go to bed (10:00 pm) and we enjoy over a 90% hatch rate...

Yeah, but I travel every week so they would have to go 2-3 days unturned. These aren't even my eggs and I'm not getting anything out of it so I really can not worry to much about them. Hey, we've already found out that one egg feeds the whole family!

I would drop the temp a bit more (95.5).. makes for longer incubation but also helps prevent some of the leg issues since it's closer to the actual temp under the male

for humidity be sure to weigh the eggs and go by weight loss to determine what your humidity needs to be since t can vary a bit from location to location

hand turning the eggs will give you better hatch rates as ES explained
