So the leaves started falling and there are more overcast days than clear and my chickens have stopped leaving their coops. They just sit inside and don't even make noise. The only time they will go out into their run is if I am in the run. The weather is quite nice (70s) and I'd expect them to be enjoying it. Lol do my chickens have seasonal depression?

They may be spooked by the falling leaves?

Thats possible. But at the same time they've also warmed up to me a lot and show general behavior changes. Especially my young barred rock pullets I can't go into the coop without 3 of them flying into my shoulders and nuzzling me like kittens.

Mine spend more time loafing now around buildings, under vehicles and in really dense grass clumps. Leaves falling from trees make so trees no longer providing quality cover. Additionally, forages here at least are exceptionally easy to come by. Insect biomass still high and easy to catch. Mast / seeds also very abundant. Mine also pounding down persimmons which are good energy source, plus a chance for getting a buzz on.

Have you noticed any signs of predators pacing around your coop/run? Mine won't come out if the cougar, bobcat, or bear gets too close to the property line.

Mine are acting like it's spring due to the weather. The boys are fighting more often, & breeding like mad. Even my Sumatra (He's young) whose a seasonal breeder thinks it's Spring.
My other roosters usually breed anytime, but it increased.

Egg laying increased too, got 17 eggs today.

This weather is messing up my birds.

Liveing in the U.K. and never seen a bear 🐻 we don’t have them here ! So this sound so fascinating and scary at the same time that , it could be possible to have a bear on your property

I have several but they don't venture anywhere near my coop/run. The coyotes in the area keep their distance from my property.

Today they have been out in their run all day, first time in about a week and a half but now they are fighting a whole lot more

Oh wow I was just writing that they are fighting more and just as I wrote that the cockerels went on a complete mating frenzy.
