Average # eggs from pilgrim geese?

I just noticed on Metzer's "compare the breeds" list they show an average of 20-25 eggs laid each season for the pilgrims. Well today my female laid her 20th egg and she started March 9, 2013. Should I be expecting her up stop so soon? I was hoping to get a full three months production from March-May.

She is doing good. Baby my adopted goose from 18 years ago used to give me up to 16-18 eggs and then would stop and start her setting. Yours should stop soon. I find Baby my Pilgrim is a tad slow to start her setting and I sometimes get paranoid, will she ever set... she eventually does. I swear geese want a butt load of eggs to sit on first then they settle down. Good luck... Steve

I don't want her to set this year which is why I keep taking them away. So far she's up to #25. I'm doing a lot of renovation in their space turning it into a little "barn-ette" so I shoo them into the yard every day. Next spring I'm fine with her setting but this year I want to squirrel away as many eggs as possible for future crafting projects.

So Baby is still laying at 18 years old huh? That's fantastic. I'm hoping my pair live a long healthy life too. Freddie the male is in protection mode these days (spring time I assume?) which really makes me lol. Whenever he sees me walk through the yard (which is OFTEN cuz I'm getting supplies out of the basement or going down there to cut wood etc) he comes charging at me with his neck flat out. All I have to do now is say any one of these phrases BACK UP, KNOCK IT OFF , SERIOUSLY? And he stops and walks away with his head down like he's ashamed - the faker - cuz when I start walking again he just repeats the whole process. Sometimes I just say DON'T DO IT when he's coming at me across the yard and he stops and turns around lol. They are so smart and so much fun. I just love them!

Yes, they are a hoot. I get that from time to time with the head lowered but that is because I wander too close to the nesting area. All my geese are harmless since I am 1 on 1 all the time with them. I do the same...I will be followed head down by the males and all I say is "You know better or don't bite the hand that feeds you", lol. All I really have to say is Want a Treat... head perks up pretty quick. Steve

Yeah for the chickens and ducks the word TREAT works miracles but for the geese its the sound of a plastic bag crinkling that gets them running. Of course there's always lettuce or some other delectable treat inside

As of yesterday, my goose has laid 45 eggs! I can't believe she is still laying. Hmmm, I'm hoping this prolific spurt won't shorten her egg laying life span.
