I haven't read through the thread, but are you keeping track of shipped vs picked egg hatch rates as well? Obviously the shipped eggs shouldn't be lumped with non-shipped, and clears should be tracked (or discarded from the starting total) as well if you aren't.
The intention was that it would be very simple. How many eggs did you start with against how many chicks you ended up with. That's the real hatch rate.
Saying that thoug, it's up to each individual to determine what numbers they want to add, people who candle and discard may well only count those that passed the candling test, some people might not include chicks that died two days later. There are no hard and fast rules; it's up to you. With sufficient numbers of contributors the average should be close to an average unless someone goes out of their way to distort the figures.
There isn't currently a differentiation between shipped and non-shipped eggs, although I do understand that the expectations of shipped eggs may be lower. If you'd like to add another section for shipped eggs it's not a problem.
Duck hatches (and anything other than chickens) should not be added. It's a chicken only AHR thread. I'm not sure if there is duck one going, someone already asked so there might be.
Thanks for joining in, it's very interesting to see how close to the 50% mark the numbers are and I'm hoping it helps some people who have what they think is a 'bad' hatch to realize that the average isn't perhaps as high as they think.
The only thing that I'd ask is that the contributor do the math, so that the figures are ready for the next person without them having to go back three or four posts and do a load of adding and dividing and we lose track.
